  • Aminoglycosides* (Profound and irreverible hair cell loss)
  • Barbiturates
  • Cytotoxic drugs-Nitrogen mustard & cisplatin affect Organ of corti (irreversible)
  • Diuretics-Ethacrynic acid, frusemide cause Ionic changes (reversible)
  • Etc.

 

*Kanamycin, neomycin & dihydrostreptomycin are cochleotoxic. Streptomycin, gentamicin & tobramycin are vestibulotoxic.

 A+ includes all causes with A

  • Anti-malarial-Quinine (Cinhconism) causes vasoconstriction- (reversible)
  • Anti-inflammatory-Salicylates- vasoconstriction (reversible)
  • Anti-thyroid- Thiouracils
  • Anti-epileptic-Phenytoin sodium, ethosuxamide- vestibulotoxic
  • Anti-hypertensive-B-blockers like practolol (cochleotoxic), propanolol, oxyprenolol (both)
  • Antibiotics-Vancomycin, chloramphenicol, minocyclin (Vestibulotoxic)
  • Anti-heparin-Hexadimethrine bromide (used after hemodialysis)
  • Alchohol
